Happy Father's Day
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there. I am going to relax for mine. Be well.
A Name Change
ICANN, I have mentioned them more than once, the organization that is under contract to the United States Federal Government and is responsible for the domain names used on the internet, is changing the rules of the game. The issue is one of branding, or better put, it is one of making money off of the internet.
Here is an article on the current state of the matter. None of it will apply to me because I have never included any adds on this blog and refrain from using words that the FCC would find objectionable.
Already there is an extension ".xxx" rather than ".com" for pornographic sites. A new group wants to have a ".Vegas" extension. People self selecting their place on the web. What do you want to bet that online gambling is allowed; but, only on sites with the ".Vegas" extension and in order to be allowed to use those sites you will have agreed to pay your taxes if you win money, just like in real Las Vegas?
People who have lots of "friends" on facebook will be able (already are) to make money just by having people click through. Regulations will be tailored towards the different domain names. I could see a time when you have to pay a fee to use certain domain extensions and even verify your identity and age (porn sites and gambling sites will be the first to do this).
