We live in a world of celebrity and shock. We fabricate events to gain the attention of prospective consumers. For the past week I have read about how the Academy of Arts and Science had told Sacha Baron Cohen that he could not come to the Academy Awards in costume. He was eventually given his tickets, arrived at the show and dumped ashes from an urn on Ryan Seacrest. Somehow the whole thing seemed contrived to me. How did the Academy know that Cohen planned on going in costume? Was it all done just to drive up viewership?
We live in a world where the truth no longer matters and image is everything. We have politicians who claim to be God fearing Christians publicly and yet live lives that are the exact opposite of what they claim to believe. Currently we are watching the highly orchestrated Republican primaries. While claiming to believe in "family values" we watch as Newt Gingrich campaigns alongside of his third wife. Does anyone really care about character?
So, here is my question. How do you judge others, what do you look at in determining what opinion you have of others? When someone is rich and powerful do you see them as better than those who are not? Is your opinion of others based on how you benefit from being around them, what you get from them?
