For years I thought I first heard Dr Demento on the California State University Northridge radio station. From what I have read it was actually on a Pasadena radio station. That is also in the San Fernando Valley area. The station was KPPC and from what I read tonight it was considered "underground" at the time. He didn't stay there long and in 1971 he went to KMET another local station. After moving to KMET he played more comedy novelty songs and less just old and odd blues songs. In 1974 Dr Demento went national in syndication. He went into even bigger distribution by 1978; but, by then I had moved from the area. The truth of the matter is that I listened to Dr Demento before he had his big break and real national fame. I treasure the memory of his beginnings.
When I was a tween, Sundays were spent listening to comedy songs and funky old blues with Dr Demento telling us stories about the history of the music. I will get back to the Doctor; but, please enjoy these humorous links. We need more humorous songs and more silliness to put up with the harshness that seems to be modern life. Be well and enjoy.
