The Future of Marriage

Here is an article about seven celebrities who believe marriage is outdated. This type of justification is becoming more and more common, the belief that people are incapable of remaining faithful. It is garbage, I was never unfaithful. We are not animals, we are humans and history has proven that we can remain faithful, many choose not to; it is a conscious decision on their part.

People do lots of selfish things, they steal, they lie, they kill one another. Does that mean that we accept the justifications that they use after getting caught? People will say that marriage is outdated, I didn't know it came with an expiration date. They talk as if we have advanced past commitment, that fidelity is unrealistic. It is garbage, what they are really saying is that they don't want to be in a committed relationship, that they are too selfish to commit to another. Fine, just say that there is no need to justify their actions. It is like when criminals say they are just like any other businessmen, they are not.

Divorce is expensive, hurtful and takes an emotional toll. It is even worse when people have young children. There are times when we may be unevenly yolked; but, that doesn't justify adultery. We are telling people that their contracts, agreements are meaningless, not just marriage, debt also. We will not improve this country or world by making meaningless agreements, we will trust each other less.
