Water Watching

Historically the Federal Government has had a certain level of control over Navigable waterways. Navigable means that you can float your boat. Currently, the federal government is attempting to change the laws to allow them control over all natural waterways. That would include a well on your property.

Last Thursday, the EPA declared the "LA River" a navigable waterway. Many politicians were thrilled because it means that they can get money to build little projects along the river. Now, the truth is, and the Army Corp of Engineers agree, that the LA River is not a navigable waterway it is a drainage ditch, it was built as such. Most of it is empty of water unless there is a storm. There is certainly nothing natural about it, it is man made with concrete.

Most people will consider this change fairly meaningless, they will think that it has nothing to do with them. They will be dangerously wrong. The few cookies given to a few neighborhoods by the federal government are meaningless to me, the control they can now exert over water throughout the United States is dangerous.

Water is the essence of life and the federal government is seeking to control all water, that means they can set policy on farming, manufacturing and just about everything else and congress doesn't have to be involved, you and your representatives have no say in the matter, it falls under executive action (the President). If you read the article you will see that it also means that local municipalities will need to get Federal permits to conduct certain activities in and around the "river".

I highly recommend that people read anything they see that talks about water, it is the final stitch in a rather tight garment. Hope you all had a great weekend and that you have a wonderful week.
